Recently, the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association changed their name to The Municipalities of Saskatchewan.

Shaunavon Mayor, Grant Greenslade, is expressing his concern over the fact that he feels that SUMA is moving towards SUMA and SARM cooperating together under one name. "SUMA changed their name to the Municipalities of Saskatchewan which is sort of inferring there's going to be cooperation between ourselves and SARM. And, I actually think that that might cause more of an issue than it would help. I'm not sure SARM wants to be the arm of the town and villages, and the RM's, nor do I think we want SARM involved in our business."

Don Lundberg is the Reeve for the R.M. of Arlington. He attended the recent SUMA convention and said the announcement of the name change came as a surprise to everyone.

Lundberg said,"I hope it's not their plan to lead into amalgamation, because the rural municipalities and the urban municipalities are diverse in our needs and our wants. Right now, as it is in our area, our rurals work together the two towns of Shaunavon and Eastend very well. We have a good working relationship and amalgamation would not be the thing that we would be interested in at all."
