The construction tender for the Leader Healthcare Facility Integration will be re-issued.

Cypress Health revealed that they cancelled the initial call for construction tenders because the submissions were substantially higher than the approved capital budget.

"We've been trying to look at different ways to get the tender under within budget or not, and as of Friday, we actually ended up cancelling the call for construction tenders for the Leader Integrated Facility," said Brenda Schwan, Vic-President of Continuing Care and Capital Project Lead for Cypress Health.

On September, 2014, Minister of Health Dustin Duncan announced a $12 Million expansion/renovation to the Western Senior Citizens Home in Leader, as a continuum of health services being located under one roof.

"Both the Ministry of Health and the Cypress Health are behind this project and want to see it go forward, and really knows the integration of the facilities all under one roof  is important to Leader and the surrounding communities," Schwan said.

She said the Leader facility integration project remains a top priority and thanks the municipal councils for their financial commitment to the project, so far, adding to expect more updates in the near future.

Cypress Health will meet with the staff in February and look at some of the design ideas for the architects to redraw. Schwan says the health region hopes to get the tenders back in June, and then construction can start in August.
