Flood waters wash away part of Highway 1 west of Maple Creek in June (submitted photo)

Work continues on rebuilding the Trans-Canada Highway west of Maple Creek.

Part of the highway washed away in the June 18 floods, and since then, crews have been working on rebuilding the road and installing a new, larger culvert that can withstand a similar flood event.

Traffic through the site remains on two lanes, and Doug Wakabayashi with the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure says they are still optomistic they'll be back on four lanes for the winter.

Wakabayashi says they've completed construction of the new culvert, and they hope to begin building the new road structure soon.
