Engines roared through Swift Current over the weekend when the second annual Cruise and Walk for a Cure took off on Saturday afternoon.

The fundraiser is to raise awareness for type 1 diabetes and raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

There were 14 individuals that participated in the walk, 40 individuals that took part in the cruise, and a total of 27 bikes.

The walk began at 11 a.m. at the Credit Union Iplex, while riders kicked off at 1:00 p.m.

One of the participants at the event, Steve, said that he believes it is important to raise awareness for a disease that affects so many.

“My grandfather had diabetes, so I think it's very important to raise awareness and you know hopefully find a cure for the disease,” he stated.

From Swift Current, the cruise drove through Cabri, before heading to Gull Lake for lunch at the Last Chance Bar and Grill.

The group then proceeded back through Swift Current to Cadillac, where the Cadillac Hotel hosted the fundraiser for supper and door prizes and raffles were drawn.

Saturday’s event raised $1,600 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
