Flu shots are still available for anyone who has yet to receive one

Just over a month into this year's flu clinic season, the Cypress Health Region is still encouraging the public to receive the influenza vaccine if they have yet to.

Medical Health Officer for the region, Dr. David Torr says the vaccine becomes very important as the temperature begins to drop.

"Now we are also moving into the colder temperatures so we are certainly going to anticipate influenza activity pretty soon. We have had a relatively good response so far from the public getting the vaccines, but there still is a proportion of the population that has yet to, so now would be a good time to remind them to get it before that (colder temperatures) comes into play," he said.

Dr. Torr also mentioned there are plenty of options for anyone still seeking a flu shot.

"Even though our open clinics are no longer in play, you can still contact public health and get your immunization, you can contact your pharmacy and get your immunization, and some family physician practices are also giving the vaccine, so there is a good number of options for someone to access the immunization," he added.

With the temperature continuing to drop, Dr. Torr wanted to remind the public to stay warm and well hydrated with the dry Saskatchewan winter approaching, as the dry conditions contribute towards infections.
