Today is the first official day of winter, but around here, winter actually started last week.

The cold snap continues in the southwest today with windchill warnings in effect for the region throughout the weekend.  However, all warnings ended earlier this morning.

Environment Canada issues windchill warnings when windchill factors colder than -40 are expected to last for a period of three hours or more.

The windchills expected this afternoon are still very uncomfortable in the -37 range.  That's enough to cause exposed skin to freeze in as little as 10 minutes.

The weather is expected to warm up just in time for Christmas, with sunshine and highs of -12 expected for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
