A new program announced in the Federal Budget last month will allow families of children with disabilities to plan for the future.

The Registered Disability Savings Plan allows funds to be invested. Minister of National Revenue, Carol Skelton says the RDSP is filling a need. They recognize that parents of disabled children face a financial strain, and have concerns of their children's welfare if something happens to themselves. Skelton adds the response to the program has received a positive response up-to-date.

The plan has a lifetime maximum of $200,000 and will be available in 2008.
