Doc's Town programming for the summer of 2018 wrapped up on Sunday, leaving the historical village dormant until next summer.

The final hurrah for the year came in the form of a Harvest Dance and Jam Session.

The heritage village hosted 12 events falling on Sundays throughout the summer, while also being open to the public nearly every weekend.

Beryl Robinson, program and publicity coordinator for the Doc's Town Committee, said that she felt that Doc's Town is important to keep alive as it contains the history of southwestern Saskatchewan.

"I think we don't know where we're going ahead if we don't know where we come from, and I think that people need to appreciate the efforts of the settlers that made this community become what it is today."

Doc's Town relies on donations, profits from their tea room, and funds from the City of Swift Current to keep it's doors open.

Robinson also said that she enjoyed the opportunity to showcase the culture of early settlers to the public, including two foreign guests.

"One of the things that were special for me was bringing guests from England to the Cowboy Poetry, they were quite enthralled," she said with a glowing smile coming to her face. "We had an opportunity to take them out to a working ranch the day before, and it just meant so much to them to follow it up with those stories told in poetry about what western life is all about."
