The Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation held one of their smaller fundraisers last week in efforts to raise some funds for their renal dialysis unit project.

The Donut Day fundraiser was in partnership with Living Sky Casino and raised just shy of $2,000 for the purchase of new electronic patient chairs for the Cypress Regional Hospital.

Jim Dekowny, the executive director of the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation, said the fundraiser ended up being bigger than first anticipated.

"Knowing that it was a Friday afternoon and she (Lindsay Sletten) had limited staff with the casino... We said we'd cut it off at 40 dozen," he explained. "We sold 40 right away, real quick. So then we decided if we could do 40 on Friday, we could probably do some on Thursday."

The fundraiser ended up selling about 80 dozen donuts between Thursday and Friday and could have sold more.

"We had two pretty busy days with the donuts," Dekowny said. "In saying that we did have many, many to the tune of about 30 more people that phoned last minute that tried to get donuts for Friday."

Currently the foundation has two projects they're raising funds for, one that is close to its end goal fundraising wise and the other is just starting out.

"So we're trying to get those finished up and then start working on the Radiothon," he said. "The renal dialysis still has a ways to go, but I think we're close with the mental health unit one, so hopefully we'll be making an announcement at some point."

No date has been set for the 12th Annual Radiothon yet.
