This past week was Drowning Prevention Week across Canada.

Drowning is the second-leading cause of accidental death in this country, and on average, 20 Canadians drown every year. This month alone, eight people have drowned across Saskatchewan.

Shelby Rushton, CEO of the Saskatchewan Lifesaving Society, says if you're boating, always wear a life jacket or personal floatation device.

Rushton adds that you shouldn't be drinking alcohol while boating and swimming, and parents should be watching their children at all times around water.
