You might not want to take a drink of water shortly before 2 o'clock this afternoon... at least if you'd prefer to not spit your water out.

A public awareness test of Canada's Alert Ready system is scheduled to be carried out by Pelmorex Corp at 1:55 p.m. across radio, television, and mobile devices.

The test is set to take place in all provinces and territories except Ontario, Québec, Nova Scotia, and Nunavut.

Alert Ready issues alerts for a variety of situations, ranging from amber alerts to terrorist threats to tornado warnings.

Wireless devices should receive a test alert if they're connected to an LTE wireless or newer wireless network (such as 5G), they're capable of receiving wireless public alerts, and they are equipped with a Canadian version of its operating software.
