Emergency Medical Services staff are some of the most important and under-recognized individuals in our communities.

That's why this week is  Emergency Medical Services Week across Canada.

It's a week to bring together and recognize and honour the dedication of those who provide day-to-day lifesaving services to medicines 'front line'.

"These individuals are committed to their communities and to their neighbours," said Operations Manager of EMS for the Cypress Health Region, Tom Pickering, "and they provide care in times of crisis to people who become ill or injured, and they do so usually in a lot of their own personal freedoms and these people need to be recognized for the contributions they make in their communities."

Pickering added this years theme is One Mission. One Team.  Approximately 90 EMS Staff work out of twelve providers within the Region. Collectively more than 4000 calls are recieved each year by these twelve providers.

To celebrate EMS week, the EMS team in Shaunavon is hosting an open house at the Ambulance Base at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre.  There will be a BBQ supper on Friday May 24th from 4:30-6:30, where the public is invited to meet the EMS staff and enjoy some food and conversation.
