fast eddy

Edward Dostaler or "Fast Eddy" as he likes to be called, is embarking on the first ever solo and unassisted run across Canada and back.

He will begin the run in Victoria. BC, on March 1st and hopes to complete it in a little under a year.

Dostaler says he is doing the run to raise funds and awareness for two causes that are close to his heart.

"I'm doing this for Alzheimer's and Breast Cancer. Hopefully raising alot of awareness and much needed research funding. I'm keeping all the money raised local to the areas in which they are coming from. So Saskatchewan money stays in Saskatchewan, BC money stays in BC, Ontario money stays in Ontario."

When asked what he believed the greatest challenge of the run would be, Dostaler said texting and driving. He explained that he could prepare himself for weather conditions and put on more or less layers as needed but there is nothing he can do about people who are not paying attention to him on the road.

Dostaler says the general public will also be able to trek along with him, thanks to the OKay Spot.

"What we wanted to do was, it's a safety device as well. I'm out there by myself, I want to make sure people know exactly where I am. It's called an OKay Spot and what this is, this is allowing me to be tracked every 10 minutes.People will go on my website and at the top left hand corner it will be logged in for the first time on Saturday. And what this will end up doing is if you click it you will see my exact coordinates of where I was for the past 10 minutes. You can see up to thirty days of where I ran but you will know where I have been for the past 10 minutes."

Inspired by role models such as Terry Fox, Dostaler says he himself is just an average guy and hopes he will inspire others with his journey.

Fast Eddy will be making his way through Swift Current on April 16th.
