Don't blink if you see a couple of longboarders on Highway 1 this afternoon.

Cancer survivor Brandon Harrison and his father Michael Floyd are boarding across the country raising money for the Coast To Coast Against Cancer Foundation.

Interview with Michael Floyd and Brandon Harrison"I just realized how fortunate I am to be here today to do something like this," Harrison said.

Having confronted and survived cancer at age 2, battling a brain aneurysm and stroke at age 15, 19 year old Brandon is now cancer-free and healthy.

They started holding "Cruise" and "Conquest" events last year including a 20 kilometer Cruise along the pathways of Red Deer, Alberta. This is their first trek across the country and the responce has been positive.

"The people in this country are phenomenal," Floyd said. "They're supporting us in a miriad of ways...  putting us up, honking as we're going down the road... people have no idea how inspring that is getting that little push from people."

They picked the Coast To Coast Against Cancer Foundation because of how they help families dealing with children who have cancer.

"It's the mindset around it," Floyd said. "Parents have to have hope and belief that we can get through this. We have to have hope and trust the outcome before we ever know that something like that comes aboard."

They're planning to head out on Highway 1 at noon on Thursday with a planned stop somewhere near Gull Lake. The father and son combination usually board about 8 hours every day and noted the toughest part has been battling the elements across the country.
