Fiesta Latina presented by the Southwest Multicultural Association will be bringing a taste of Cuba to the Sky Center this Saturday.

Archie Robertson, President of the Association says they are very excited to have the group performing.

"Well were very pleased to be able to have the El Grupo Cubano come to Swift Current. They have been on tour in western Canada before mostly in British Columbia and a little bit in Alberta and I believe this is their first time coming to Saskatchewan. They are three guitars, string bass and percussion and they play traditional music from Cuba."

El Grupo Cubano play a variety of musical styles as Robertson explains.

" They have got acapela music, ballads, salsa, guaracha, merengue and columbia. They play some of it in popular current compositions and some from the original style. It's a good representative of the music of Cuba."

The evening will include an opportunity for dancing as well as tropical foods and drinks.

This is the first time Fiesta Latina has taken place and Robertson says he hopes the event will broaden people's perspectives and allow them to hear traditional music from another place and learn about another culture a bit.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Newcomer Welcome Center or Pharmasave.

Doors open at 7:30pm and the event begins at 8:00pm.
