With a warm stretch on the way, the Swift Current City Fire Department is warning residents about the dangers of thin ice.

Acting Fire Chief Denis Pilon is urging everyone to stay off ice unless they know it's thick enough to safely walk on.  He adds, if you see someone fall through, call 911 for help immediately, and don't try to save the person yourself as you risk falling in through the ice as well.

Pilon says the ice will thin out very quickly with the warm weather, particularly on the creek where the water is always moving below the ice surface.
