A small fire flare-up occurred yesterday morning in the R.M. of Waverley stemming from Monday's large grass fire.

Crews were already on hand monitoring the scene where 3,500 acres were scorched earlier this week when the flare-up happened.

The fire began around 8 a.m. with a crew already on scene.

A 9-1-1 call was placed by a local at 10:12 not realizing the fire trucks were already there.

The administrator of the RM of Waverley at Glentworth, Deidre Nelson, said the flare-up was described as "not very big at all".

The fire was contained again by noon.

Farmers, ranchers, hunters and the general public are being encouraged not to leave vehicles running in fields or pastures, and to carry fire suppression equipment in case a fire should develop.

Farmers are encouraged to have water tanks at fields as they work, it’s also a good idea to make sure you have a shovel and fire extinguisher available at all times.

With the high fire risk, it doesn’t take much to spark a fire so it may be a good idea to also make sure vehicles are left off the field or pasture.
