The Saskatchewan flag flying over City Hall in Swift Current has some new company as a flag marking SaskAbilities joined it.

The flag-raising was a part of SaskAbilities Awareness Week and featured Mayor Denis Perrault, Cypress-Hills Grasslands MP David Anderson, along with many members from SaskAbilities.

Cadence Toma, the community relations coordinator with SaskAbilities Swift Current Branch, said this year they are focusing on bringing awareness to those who volunteer with SaskAbilities.

"We are hoping people in the southwest understand the impact that our clients who have been volunteering this year have," she said. "They have volunteered over 1,500 hours collectively, and that's through 46 clients. We've helped out at approximately 22 events across the southwest. We want to highlight and celebrate it and promote that inclusive volunteerism. We have a lot of clients who are ready, willing, and able to work, and they certainly want to help out at different events and at different organizations in the southwest."

Some of the many events SaskAbilities has helped out at include the Western Cannada Summer Games, Swift Current 57's games, The Great Southwest Shakespeare Festival, the Windscape Kite Festival and many more.

"This year we picked our volunteers and the community program to celebrate and highlight their dedication," Toma said. "They are putting a lot of time, and we want to show them how much the community and the region appreciate it."

The next event for SaskAbilities Awareness Week is a BBQ at Market Square on Thursday.
