Water levels in Swift Current Creek peaked two weeks ago, and have since decreased

Water levels in Swift Current Creek have been stable all week, and the risk of flooding in the city is diminishing.

The City reported that water releases from Duncairn Dam reservoir will continue this weekend at 1500 cubic feet per second, the same rate that has been released since Tuesday. The creek is still flowing quickly, and with cold temperatures, the city is advising residents to stay away from the water.

Meanwhile, the city is trying to reduce the inventory of sandbags that were filled in the height of the flood watch on the week of April 10th. Those who want them for flower beds or sandboxes can take as many as they want for free at the Recreation Centre on 6th Ave NE. Also, those who placed sandbags around their properties and don't need them anymore can drop them off at the Rec Centre.

In the Frenchman River Basin, where the flood threat has been slowly increasing, the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority says flows at Eastend remained steady yesterday at 33 cubic metres per second. They were anticipating a peak of 200 cubic metres per second, the highest since 1952, but adds cooler weather this weekend could delay the melt of the heavy snowpack, and possibly reduce peak flows.
