Doctor Prism Schneider, who was born and raised in Shaunavon, has received a grant from the CIHR Fall 2019 Project Grants for a study to predict the risk of developing blood clots after trauma.

Schneider, who is a Clinical Associate Professor at The University of Calgary, and an Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon is working on a simple point of care blood test to access patients at risk of blood clots following a traumatic injury.

She says, "And that's to study the patient population that has a very high risk of patients that have fractures of their thigh bone of femur. In this group of patients, up to 15% of them can actually, unfortunately, sustain a deep vein thrombosis or even a pulmonary embolism after their injuries. So, that's the population we're targeting with this specific grant."

Schneider received a grant of over $834,000 for her research over four years.
