Last night at city hall in Swift Current, council approved the demolition of the former St. Joseph School building.

Holy Trinity School Division sold the facility to the city, along with St. Patrick's Elementary School for a dollar in June. St. Joseph's demolition is the first step towards community planning for the land on 2nd Avenue South East.

Mitch Minken, General Manager of Infrastructure and Operations for the City says the demolition will be happening soon.

"We'll look at getting that done later this fall- probably into November. We've got some things we've got to get out of the school itself. There's some items that be want to salvage out of there before we do the demolition," Minken said. "There's some lighting fixtures that are in the gym and there's some equipment that's still in there."

Silverado Demolition out of Saskatoon will remove the former school for just under $86 thousand.
