Former NDP MLA John Wall has passed away at the age of 72.

Wall was the MLA for Swift Current from 1995 until 1999, when he was defeated by Premier Brad Wall.

The Premier expressed his condolences to John's family on behalf of the Sask Party Caucus, saying although they were political opponents in that 1999 election campaign, he admired his honesty and committment to the people of Swift Current and Saskatchewan.

Premier Wall notes that John was also a long-time educator dating back to 1957, and was actually his Principal when he was in Grades 8 and 9.

Wall adds that a condolence motion will be made later this session to honour John, and flags at the Provincial Legislature will be lowered to half staff on that day.

The funeral for John Wall will be held at First United Church in Swift Current Monday afternoon at 2:00pm.
