fair2012

It’s another busy day at the fair.

Swift Current Ag & Ex Frontier Days 75th Anniversary Celebrations continue.

Lenora Bells the Event Development Co-Ordinator filled us in on the history behind the show:

"Back in 1936 a group of men were getting together making plans for a community celebration," she said. "They were just coming out of the dirty 30s and the depression and everyone needed an uplifting event to take place. In 1938 it was decided that they would use a rodeo because everybody knew about the cowboy way of life."

Gates opened today at 12pm and daily Admission is $5.

There’s lots to see and do from the rides and entertainment to the trade show and rodeo plus all the livestock events go just south of the Palliser Pavilion.

This afternoon at 1pm the Purebred cattle show gets underway.

"Four or five different breeds represented," said Bryce Burnett, Chair of the Livestock Committee. "The competition is always keen in this show. It's great to see the purebred guys bring their cattle to town."

In the Light Horse Arena it’s  the Ranch Horse and Saskatchewan Reined Cow Horse Show  and  the Heavy Horse Competition goes this afternoon in the Grandstand Arena.
