Frontier-Days 2014 3

After 4 full days of events, concerts, and rides - another Frontier Days has come to an end.

This year's celebration was extra meaningful as the City of Swift Current celebrated 100 years.

The weekend started off with a pancake breakfast in Market Square with the burning of the Frontier Days Brand and finished up last night at the fairground with a fireworks show and evening Cabaret featuring Prism.

Event Development Co-ordinator for Ag and Ex, Lenora Bells, says there were many highlights every day during 'The Saddle up for the Ride of a Century' event.  One of the biggest events was the Parade on Saturday which Bell says had a great variety with something for everyone with over 140 entries taking part.

"Some of parade entries even came up to me after and said they were from out of town and this was one of the best parades - because of the community, the cheering, the clapping, and the streets were lined up with people, it was just amazing," said Bells.

The weather started off with some rain on Thursday, meaning that the Ag & Ex had to change the location of one of the Grandstand concerts to the iPlex. Even though there were some ups and downs with the weather it was great to see the sun shining on Saturday which was the busiest day by far says Bells.

"People were out on the rides, the kids were enjoying themselves, and the food was out there, you could see sunburns on some people.  They were out having a great time with smiles and laughs and enjoying each other's company," said Bells.

Bells adds she heard from many how great it was to be in our City for the Centennial Homecoming 2014.

"The weekend was a chance to really gather together and celebrate homecoming and 100 years of being a community and joining together, it is just really something when you get a bunch of people together like that."

Events like this take a great team to run smoothly and Bells says many were involved in the 4 day event.

"For Frontier days alone we had about 649 volunteers and then we had some working downtown. So we definitely have some that are very devoted to the community and want to help and support."

Not only did volunteers play a big role in Frontier Days, Bells also wanted to say a big thank you to the 14 board members from the Swift Current Ag & Ex Association that helped make the whole event possible.
