The future of the barley industry is being discussed with the Canadian Wheat Board, grain handlers, malting companies, and farm groups.

Federal Agriculture Minister, Gerry Ritz says both farmers and the industry have expressed the desire for marketing freedom.

Today’s meeting will allow them to share their ideas with the Board on how to get there.  It will also give them a chance to discuss the Board’s CashPlus program, and any problems they see with it.

Provincial Ag Minister, Bob Bjorenrud will be at the table, as well as the other Western Canada ag ministers, to show their positions on the matter.

The National Farmers Union says groups such as theirs who support the Canadian Wheat Board have not been invited, however.
