The federal and provincial governments are partnering up to provide Southwest Crisis Services with a significant amount of money to improve their housing.

The Swift Current-based organization is being given $236,000 through the Shelter Enhancement Program that is also funding 13 other projects in the province to a tune of about $4.2 million combined.

Heather Lennox, the executive director of Southwest Crisis Services, said it's an honour to receive the funding, which is more than they were expecting.

"It's a great initiative from the federal and provincial government and it's much appreciated," she said. "We're working closely with the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation in regard to the renovations. The money streams are coming from provincial and federal government and Sask Housing is helping us make sure we're doing things in line with code and helping us work with our contractor."

It's been a process since the renovations at the Southwest Crisis Services Safe Shelter began about a year ago.

"There are some starts and stops and I would say we're a little more than 50 per cent complete of the project," Lennox said. "I can envision where the project is going, but the renovations are a bit of a challenge."

According to Lennox the funds they will receive from the government will cover all the upgrade costs.

"It will give us a renovated kitchen, a sprinkler system in our building, some new windows, accessibility ramps, and an accessible bedroom and bathroom."
