Travellers along the #1 highway yesterday evening likely noticed a number of grass fires.

At 5:15pm yesterday Swift Current, Waldeck, and Herbert Fire Departments, as well as CP Rail responded to a number of spot fires along the rail line.

Fire officials say a rail car had an overheated brake, which started the fires that spanned from Rush lake to Chaplin.

Crews worked well into the night to supress the fires.  Damage was minimal, and there are no known injuries as a result of the fires.
