SGI in conjunction with law enforcement across the province wrapped up another monthly traffic safety blitz last week.

The "Hang up, Buckle Up" Blitz focused on cutting back on distracted driving and proper seatbelt use.

"Seatbelts and cell phone use while driving are two main traffic safety issues that law enforcement felt it was appropriate to focus on," said Rebecca Schulz, Communications Manager with SGI, "there are a number of fatal collisions, where seatbelt use is a factor, and we do know that distracted driving does cause a number of collisions on our roads each and every year." Schulz added weather did play a bit of a role in the results of this blitz.

"This is really the first time we did see the weather and the driving conditions impact the results of the blitz, I guess as collisions were happening in certain areas around the province, of the course the roads were icy and slippery and there was a lot of snow in some areas, so of course that took some resources from the blitz."

October's traffic safety blitz, "Fall Frenzy" saw over 1000 tickets handed out.
