The holiday season is a time of family, friends and food, and it's easy to over indulge in our favourite food and drinks at this time of year.

Community Dietitian, Leanne Banman, says beating the holiday bulge is all about portion control and moderation, adding that non alcholic drink options are a healthy alterative.

"Keep an eye on portion sizes. For extra treats that are not on the Canada Food Guide, try having a small portion, things like shortbread, mincemeat pie, or other sweet squares," she said. "Make health and road safety a priority by serving non-alcoholic lower fat egg nog, virgin caesars, and sparkling water and cranberry juice spritzers."

Incorporating excercise into busy holiday schedules can also help to lose or maintain weight.
