Much of Saskatchewan is looking as though it's going to be in the cooker for the next few days.

hange Canada has issued a heat warning for southwest, central and south-central parts of the province as temperatures look to push into the low 30s while the humidex will make it feel closer to 37 on Thursday.

This is all coming as a hot air mass spreads across the southwest corner of the province today, leaving the area with a humidex of 35 degrees. That mass will spread eastwards over the next couple of days, increasing the humidity throughout the week.

In the southwest, slightly cooler temperatures will return on Friday, with the weekend bringing the most relief as Swift Current drops to 24 degrees for a high.

Those that are working outside for the next couple of days should take extra precautions, such as frequent water breaks in the shade.

Dog owners should be careful when walking their pets due to the heat of the pavement.

Parents and pet owners need to also remain wary of the temperature inside their vehicles, which can climb to many degrees hotter than the outside temperature, creating a potentially lethal situation for both pets and children.

Environment and Climate Change Canada also recommends checking for the signs of heat illness if spending a great deal of time outdoors: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

If any of those symptoms appear, immediately seek a cool area to recover and consider seeking medical attention.
