rain

It's expected to be a soggy weekend throughout southern Saskatchewan, and heavy rain expected in parts of the province is causing some flooding concerns.

The Water Security Agency says between 50 and 80 millimetres of rainfall is possible between tonight and Monday morning in regions southeast of a line extending from Val Marie, Assiniboia, Regina and down to Estevan.

"There's low to moderate confidence in this in the timing, extent of the areas affected, and the tracking and actual precipitation amounts," said WSA Spokesperson Patrick Boyle. "There is significant concentrations of rainfall embedded within the wide-ranging rainfall system, so that has the potential to create some localized flooding, where it draws a significant amount of rainfall in a smaller concentration, so that's what we're concerned about right now."

Boyle adds the rainfall is also expected to affect areas that are still experiencing above normal water levels from July's flooding in the southeast.

"When you have levels above normal already with a potential for significant rainfall, that's why we're concerned about it right now," he added. "We want to make sure that everyone is aware of that or paying attention to the forecasts going into the weekend, and ensure that the public has that information."

Boyle adds as information becomes available, the agency will be posting updates on their website.
