With a number of dollars set aside for highway and road repair in the Provincial budget, many are wondering what's in store for the southwest, including the Swift Current area.

The Highway 1 and 4 bypass that runs through the city has been the centre of debate for a number of years, as both the City and province look to put a plan in place to improve the intersection.

Minister of Highways and Infrastructure, Wayne Elhard says talks continue surrounding that section of highway.  Elhard says there is money in the budget for the junction.  Until the land can be assembled and the final engineering drawings completed, Elhard says they will be doing preliminary work on the bypass.

Also in the budget is plans for resurfacing to Highway 4 from Cadillac north for 26 kilometres.  Elhard says the stretch of highway has had money put toward it in previous years, but they are finally going to refinish most of it with new pavement.  Elhard adds that the improvments will be good for the economic potential in the area.

In their recent budget, the province put $513 million into transportation spending.
