Thanks to a local product, the Swift Current Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires opened their regular season up in the win column this evening.

Swift Current's Hudson Darby broke a tie game in the third period and added an insurance marker later in the frame to lift his hometown Legionnaires to a 3-1 win over the host Tisdale Trojans.

After a five-hour bus trip northeast for the Legionnaires, they were the ones to come out firing, racking up 16 shots in the first period only allowing 7 against but they couldn't find the back of the net.

Legionnaires Eric Hoiness in his first game for the team opened the scoring with 7:17 left in the second period nudging Swift Current in front 1-0.

Carter Ralston responded for the Trojans on a powerplay under two minutes later tying the game back up.

Darby would restore Swift Current's one-goal lead just over three minutes into the final frame before icing the game with 1:20.

Legionnaires goalie Brayden Schenstead was solid in his Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League debut turning aside 29 of the 30 shots he faced.

Swift Current has a quick turnaround as they'll take their 1-0 record to Prince Albert tomorrow afternoon for a 1:30 date with the Mintos.
