Hurricanes-Provincials feb27

The K-Motel Midget Hurricanes moved on to the next round of Provincials with a 6-4 win over the Notre Dame Hounds Friday night in front of a large, loud crowd at the Fairview Arenas.

Marcus Kouri had a hat trick to lead the way for Swift Current, who won the two-game total-point series 10-6.

"We wanted to play aggressive for 60 minutes, and I think the guys did that tonight," said Hurricanes Coach Scott Cassidy. "We're happy with the team effort tonight, we won with everybody in the lineup. All 19 guys played tonight. It was fantastic to have everyone together and we've shown what we can do when we can roll every line and play every d-man, and it's going to work going forward."

The Hurricanes' win helped them break through their league in provincial playoffs for the first time in team history, and eliminated the Hounds, who had been the league representatives in Midget AA provincials in ecah of the last two seasons.

"It just goes back to the guys in the room... these guys want to be winners," Cassidy added. "A few of them have played on teams in the past where they have gotten close, but not just not far enough... We've had success so far, but we've got two more rounds to go.

The Hurricanes will take on Humboldt in the next round of provincials, with those games yet to be scheduled.

Swift Current will also take on the Moose Jaw Midget Warriors in the first round of league playoffs next week. Game one of the best-of-three series is Wednesday night at the Fairview, with game two tentatively set for March 6th in Moose Jaw. Game three, if necessary, will be in Swift Current on March 8th.
