The battle for first place in the South Saskatchewan Midget AA League continues to heat up.

The Swift Current K-Motel Hurricanes split their games over the weekend with a 3-0 loss to the Regina Capitals and 1-0 win over the Regina Flames. They remain in first place only 2 points ahead of the Capitals and 3 points ahead of Moose Jaw.

"We've only got like 5 or 6 games left in the league," said Hurricanes Coach Greg Hurrell. "They all know it's playoff hockey from now on. Every game and every point is going to matter for us."

The Hurricanes are stingy defensively, but goal scoring has been harder to come by at times.

"We still have the lowest amount of goals against in the league," Hurrell said. "Our penalty killing, defence and goaltending are still #1. I'm concerned about our power play, five on five, getting pucks deep and setting it up to be able to put the puck in the net. That's our main focus right now."

The Hurricanes don't play another league game until February 15th.

They're in Lethbridge this weekend for a tournament before resuming provincials next Monday against Notre Dame in Wilcox. They host game 2 of that two game total goals series on February 12th.
