Over the last month, motorists were asked by CAA Saskatchewan to rank some of the most troublesome roads in the province in this year's "Worst Roads" campaign.

The voting closed on Thursday and the road that received the most votes was Highway 123 at Cumberland House.

"It's probably in a part of northern Saskatchewan that's perhaps a path less travelled, but nonetheless, relied upon by a lot of motorists to get to and from where they need to go in that part of the province," said Christine Niemczyk, Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations for CAA Saskatchewan.

No roads from the Swift Current area made the top 10 list this year, but a couple nearby were listed in the top 5. Highway 42 near Dinsmore was ranked #2, while Pasture Road (Highway 31) north of Rosetown was #5. Also in the top 5 were Highway 908 at Ile a la Crosse in the #3 spot, and last year's worst road, Highway 22 near Earl Grey, in 4th.

"I would say those were on the top 10 list since the campaign started on March 25th," Niemczyk added. "Those top five have probably been the top five for the majority of the campaign period."

Regina's Ring Road expressway made the list at #6 followed by Highway 18 at Beaubier in #7. Highway 155 at La Loche and Highway 35 near Love were #8 and #9 respectively, and rounding out the list in #10 was Highway 18 near Lake Alma.

Around 2800 votes were received in the month-long campaign.

Now that the top 10 list has been finalized, CAA will forward it to the appropriate government departments, including the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure and municipal transportation departments.

"We will bring that to their attention that these are the roads that Saskatchewan motorists have identified that need some improvement," Niemczyk said.

This year's provincial highways budget contains $168.1 million to repair and upgrade existing highways, and it also includes work to upgrade last year's "Worst road" winner on Highway 22.
