Ice fishing shacks must have the owner’s complete name, address and phone number in legible letters that are at least 2.5 cm (1”) high on the outside of the shack.

The end of the ice fishing season is right around the corner, and shacks south of Highway 16 were supposed to be removed March 15th, with shacks north of Highway 16 to be removed by March 31st.

Each spring a number of ice fishing shelters are abandoned on the ice, leaving behind debris that poses a danger to the environment and other people.

"It's regular ice fishing as far as the rules continue right to the end of the month, and so all of the current limits and where you can finish doesn't change until the end of the month," said Conservation Officer, Rich Hildebrand. "With the shacks we want them off and we want to make sure that people can get them off before the year end melt so there isn't anything left out there."

Last year, a Saskatoon man was fined $2800 for leaving an unmarked ice fishing shelter on the ice of Blackstrap Lake in addition to littering.

Ice fishing season will end on March 31st in southern Saskatchewan.
