Income tax returns must be in the mail by Thursday, April 30th, or penalties will be issued.

Debbie Johnson with the Canada Revenue Agency says, if you owe taxes and you are late filing them, there is an automatic 5% penality on the balance that you owe, plus 1% per month until you file your return.

Johnson adds, if you lost your T-4, you should contact your employer or the Canada Revenue Agency.

Taxes need to be in the mail by midnight on April 30th.
