A problem intersection in Swift Current will get the makeover motorists want.

The province is committing $6.5 million dollars to improving the highway 1 and 4 interchange in the city. That includes widening the highway 4 bypass from Swift Current Creek to just north of Saskatchewan Drive, and moving the exit ramps further away from the highway underpass.

Mayor Sandy Larson is happy the project is finally moving forward after working on it for a long time with the current and previous provincial governments.

Premier Brad Wall says the major priorities for the project are the convenience of a proper working intersection, and also safety, adding that area of the city is growing and it's up to the provincial government to provide infrastructure support to accomodate and contnue the growth and keep people safe.

The project is expected to go to tender next spring and construction is expected to begin shortly afterwards. A completion date has been set by the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure for August 11, 2011.
