Swift Current RCMP would like the public to be aware of an internet fraud scheme that is targeting people through advertisments involving free pets.

The incident, which occurred on March 26th in Swift Current, resulted in the loss of a $190 payment that was sent through Western Union to an address in Cameroon, Africa.

The victims responded to an e-mail ad for a free dog on Google.  They were told they could adopt a puppy from Newfoundland, and all they had to do was pay for the shipping of $190.  The victims were advised to ship the puppy through a company called petravelservices@aol.com.  This company was flagged on the RCMP website under frauds/scams, and helped to prevent an additional $560, which was requested for shipping insurance.

Please be aware that there are many other internet schemes that have been linked to advertisements found on kijiji.ca and autotrader.ca.
