Another benchmark was reached yesterday for the floor replacement project at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.

PCL Construction Management Inc. who was awarded the bid for the project on March 20, finished pouring the new refrigerated concrete floor slab last night in the rink.

Upon the pouring completion, workers were also able to finish floating the slab before midnight removing surface imperfections, while also compacting the concrete to allow for the next step.

"I'm very excited about that milestone actually, it was one of the milestones we were waiting for," General Manager of Community Services with the City of Swift Current Dean Robson said. "We were curious as to when we would hit this date and how everything would come about. Everything looks really good. Originally we were actually going to pour it last week, but with the SaskPower plant and the hot weather they moved out there first and then came and did this one."

The concrete will take approximately 28 days to cure and set, allowing for external work around the slab to begin. The next step in the process is to start the installation of perimeter boards and glass that will feature some newer technology.

"It allows for a little bit more reduction in injuries we hope," Robson added. "The type of board system we are installing allows for some forgiveness or cushioning, so that's going to be better for all players involved, not just the Broncos, but all of our team's boys and girls, so we see that as a real plus."

Once the slab is cured, the team of workers can install the newly designed player's benches for home and away teams, along with the installation of the interior board system.

Robson said the project is still on time to be completed for Septemeber 15 allowing for regular hockey activities to start by the first week of October.
