The numbers are in for another Terry Fox Run in Swift Current.

O.M. Irwin students from kindergarten to Grade 8 gathered with friends, family, and staff for their annual fundraising earlier this month.

Teacher Christine Thompson has organized the event for the past seven years.

"It is a record beating year for us," Thompson said. "Over the last seven years we have raised somewhere in the %5,000 to $8,000 range [annually]. So, this year being over $10,000, that's a big achievement for us."

The total tallied up is $10,720.70, with the donations coming from various different sources.

Online pledges contributed to over $8,000; Toonie for Terry Hat Day raised $661.00; a Pizza Hut meal day brought in $889; and the school sold T-shirts through the Terry Fox Foundation, raising $730.  Miscellaneous cash donations came in at $168.

Thompson said that as a staff they feel that learning about Terry Fox, his legacy, and his story, is important for their students.

"Terry's legacy is about hope and determination and hard work and setting goals and achievement," she said. "It's a really great example of some of the positive characteristics that we try to instill in our students at our school and of course, it's such an important cause to support. It's something that we try to teach our students about every year, and to instill in them some of those character traits that were important in Terry's life and to pass along his legacy to students."
