A Winnipeg man will spend 16 months in jail after charges stemming from a gas-and-dash and police pursuit in a stolen vehicle near Morse yesterday morning.

Police pursued the vehicle on the TransCanada Highway for 30 kilometers as the driver avoided a spike belt and stopped before hitting a second belt.

Ksamil Kalturnyk was arrested near Swift Current in the SUV which had been reported stolen from Winnipeg earlier that day.

The 22 year old pled guilty to possession of stolen property obtained by crime, theft under five thousand, and breach of a conditional sentence.
