Mayor of Swift Current, Jerrod Schafer, has brought forth an initiative in response to the tragic events in Ottawa today.

At tonight's Bronco game, fans are asked to wear red to support those affected by the Ottawa shootings.

Schafer says in times like this, it's important to show support and honour those who keep our country safe.

"We're so fortunate to live in Canada. It's such a great country and we have such an amazing quality of life here. I think at the game tonight we can show how fortunate and proud we are in Canada by wearing red or Candian colours or jerseys and the Maple Leaf."

"The game is on Shaw as well, so we'll have an opportunity to show the rest of the country our support for Ottawa, certainly the military, and all of the MP's and everyone effected in Ottawa today. It's an awful day," added Schafer.

The game begins at 7pm tonight at the Credit Union I-Plex.
