You still have time to help make a difference in our community by donating to the Salvation Army's Christmas kettle campaign.

Funds raised through the kettles help a number of initiatives to support the needy around Swift Current.

However, Captain Michael Ramsay says donations are down this year: "We're very thankful for all of those who have donated to our kettle campaign. Our numbers, as compared to this time last year, are down actually, pretty close to $10,000."

Although donations are down, Ramsay is expecting a strong community push over the next few days: "Swift Current is such an amazing place, that I'm sure that once the word gets out that there is that little bit of extra need, that we'll meet that need without a doubt."

Today is a good day to contribute to the campaign if you haven't yet, as Walmart in Swift Current will match any donation made at the kettle in their store for one day only.

Meanwhile, the theft of about $2000 from the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Swift Current earlier this month is still under investigation. City RCMP say no arrests have yet been made in connection with the theft from the store's safe on the night of December 6th.

In Regina, police are investigating after a Salvation Army Christmas kettle was stolen from the Northgate Mall last night. The kettle contained around $800 that would have helped families in need this Christmas. However, the stolen kettle has opened up wallets and hearts in the Queen City, with thousands of dollars donated to the Salvation Army by Regina residents just this morning after word of the theft got out.
