The crime statistics to date were released at this week's Swift Current City Council meeting.

Staff Sergeant Al MacDonell says there has been a bit of a decrease in the number of break and enters.  He says break and enters to businesses have declined from 34 last lear to 21 this year.  Break and enters to residences are consistent with previous years with 33 this year, 32 last year, and 34 the year before.

MacDonell adds that possession of stolen property has increased from 23 in 2007, to 38 in 2008.

Drug enforcement has also seen an increase.  MacDonell says, this year there have been 164 incidents of drug enforcement, compared with 89 last year and 64 in 2006.  He adds that drug enforcement remains the number one priority in the city.
