The town of Leader hosted a $1,000 a plate fundraiser this past weekend for 200 people, with proceeds upgrading medical equipment and furnishing the Leader Integrated Health Care Facility.

Beth Heatcoat is a community member who attended the event and shared her thoughts on the night.

"To have that amount of money raised at a single event is phenomenal and the reality is a number of those people at the event, their thousand dollar ticket isn't their only donation. A number of them will be donating more money to the hospital as well," she said.

John Gormely was the main speaker of the night, but other entertainment included Vaguely Vegas and dancing from The Hudecs.

"The community very strongly believes in the need to keep and maintain a good hospital in the community. Without it our residents are traveling to Maple Creek, Kindersley, Swift Current or Medicine Hat for health care. It is a vital part of our community and a huge employer in our community," Heatcoat.

The facility hopes to raise $1.5 million dollars. Final numbers from the night are still being tallied.
