The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires Split their weekend.

Taking on a red-hot unbeaten Saskatoon Blazers squad at the iPlex, game one would turn into a low-scoring back-and-forth affair early as the Blazers' Josh Knittig would get a quick shot past Colby Watson five minutes into the first frame.

Rowan Martin-Byrk would tie it up a few minutes later on a feed from Carter Cormier, while Noah Mitchell would give the Legionnaires the lead heading out of the first frame with a last-minute power-play marker to head into the second period up 2-1.

The Blazers would tie it up with a power-play marker of their own midway through the second frame as Trae Wilke would beat Watson.

The scoring would end there until the last minute of regulation when Carter Cormier would find his second point of the night; finding a way past Eric Kahl to give the Legionnaires the 3-2 win.

The Blazers wouldn't give them a repeat on Sunday, however.

Trae Wilke and Tyson Yaremko would storm out in the first period, getting two past Colby Watson in quick succession before the game was four minutes old. Josh Zakreski would add a third midway through the first frame before Hudson Darby would stop the bleeding and put Swift Current on the board on a feed from Bryant Linklater and Carter Herman.

A quiet second period would prove to be the calm before the storm, however, as both teams would start into the rough stuff midway through the third resulting in a number of off-setting penalties. Despite both squads taking a combined 42 minutes in penalties, most during the third period, the Legionnaires would only come away with a single power-play opportunity. Tarin Smith would be nabbed for slashing midway through the first period giving Swift Current a man advantage that would be cut short when Carter Herman would get the box for tripping.

Saskatoon, meanwhile, would go 0 for 6 on their power play. Zakreski would get his second goal of the night early in the third to put the Blazer up 4-1, and while Herman would claw one back for the Legionnaires, they'd fall short of the comeback.

The Legionnaires are next in action on October 16, 2021, as the Battleford Stars roll into the iPlex. The Puck drops in that game at 8:00 p.m.
