Before band-aids, frozen food or sliced bread were invented there was the Swift Current Library.

The library celebrated their 100th anniversary with a celebration yesterday at the library that featured a bouncy castle, games for the kids, and music and entertainment.

Andrea McCrimmon, the manager of the Swift Current Branch Library, said that they had a fantastic day.

"We had tons of people come out to celebrate the library's 100th anniversary," she said. "It's been really successful. People kept coming up and saying what a fabulous event we had, and that they love the library and are grateful to have it here in Swift Current. Everybody had a blast."

McCrimmon added that they had a really good turnout.

"It was really strong," she said. "We've had people coming since about 10:30 a.m. and it was pretty crowded since 11:30 a.m. so we've had quite a lot of people."

She added that they are grateful for the support they received yesterday.

"I think it shows how much the people of Swift Current love their library," she said. "Of course, we know that from last year when we had a little funding crisis, so we really rely on our community. We work for our community, and we really enjoy the work we do and are just grateful for the people of Swift Current."

The celebration featured ages from newborns to elders, something that McCrimmon said was a testament to the wide variety of people that use the library.

Though the library's actually 100th anniversary isn't until May 14 when the Library opened up in the downstairs of city hall, McCrimmon said that they decided to host it this weekend to coincide with Swift Current Library Week in the city.
