lot lineup
A few hardy folks wait in the rain at the main entrance of City Hall for the start of a residential lot sale this morning

They may be the hottest ticket in town, only in this case, the "ticket" is the deed to a residential lot in Swift Current.

The City has 47 new residential lots in the Valley Ridge subdivision, located north of Cypress Regional Hospital, up for sale on a first-come, first-served basis starting this morning, and some people have been lined up in front of City Hall for at least two hours before the start of the sale looking to be one of the first to stake their claim.

As of noon today, more than half of the lots have been spoken for.

"Of the 41 single-family lots that we had for sale, we sold 29 lots, and we have 12 left to sell in inventory, and of the six duplex lots that we had for sale, all six were sold," said Kathy Hopfner, General Manager of Corporate Services for the City of Swift Current. "I think it says a lot about the interest. I think contractors are looking to purchase lots and build for families, as well as on spec."

The city is also looking to have another 77 lots available in that area by late fall or early spring, and they also have a request for proposals to developers for new multi-family and townhouse developments in that area.
